As the fascists in Washington beat the drums of war against Cuba, the peace loving peoples of the world must mobilise to defeat this imminent threat. The Canadian Peace Congress condemns in the strongest possible terms this recent Yankee escalation, as well as the cowardly response of the Carney government.

As its latest act, the Trump administration has indicted the former president and leader of the revolution Raúl Castro as a pretext for all-out invasion. It need not be said, but Cuba poses no threat to the United States; indeed the Cubans look only to work and live in harmony with their largest neighbour. Yet the openly neo-colonialist administration led by Rubio and Trump seeks to plunge Cuba into darkness with their illegal and genocidal energy blockade of the island.

We note again, as we have many times, that not a word can be trusted out of the mouths of US Imperialists. Every accusation against so-called enemy states by the US is an admission of guilt. The US terrorises the world, yet accuses Cuba of terrorism, and this is just the newest example of its long history of false accusations in the pretext of war. The singular “crime” of Raúl Castro, and by extension the entire Cuban people, is upholding their right to self determination and defending themselves against terrorist plots planned and abetted by the United States.

US imperialism is the greatest threat to peace today, such as the January kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, killing over a hundred in the process, including 32 Cubans. US Imperialism under the newly revamped “Donroe Doctrine” looks to topple or subjugate any country which does not bend the knee to the US empire. After failing to oust the government of Iran, US Imperialism is flailing for a victory, turning their expansionism towards Cuba.

The hypocritical Liberals in Ottawa speak out of both sides of their mouth – denouncing US hegemony in one breath, and promising to help make America great again in another. The Carney government has furthered the international isolation of Cuba when it most needs solidarity against our common aggressor. The lack of even a statement from this administration, despite repeated media questioning, is the clearest possible indictment of Liberal insincerity. So long as Canada is within NATO, NORAD, and any imperialist alliance with the United States, our foreign and even domestic policy is dictated by the gangsters in Washington. The Carney government has shown its loyalty to Yankee imperialism, serving the interests of international monopolies and the war machine.

The US has always been willing to destroy entire countries and commit mass murder; now they have been emboldened by the lack of any accountability over their role in the Israeli genocide in Palestine. Indeed, the US has become even closer to their fascist ally, and is currently in the process of fully integrating the US and Israeli militaries. Mass murder of children, political leaders, civil servants, and systematic destruction of infrastructure is now the favoured modus operandi of these two rogue states. The opening salvo of the war against Iran was the mass slaughter of little girls. In Cuba the imperialists starve children daily, and now threaten the same destruction upon West Asia.

The heroic Cuban people have successfully stood their ground against the leviathan of US imperialism, and serve as a shining example of peace and solidarity. Now, they need the world’s support more than ever. We, the Canadian Peace Congress, call on the progressive people’s movements, labour, students and activists of all stripes to rally in support of Cuba. A threat against Cuba’s sovereignty is a threat against the nations of the world.

Down with US imperialism!
No war with Cuba!
Cuba is not alone!
Cuba no esta sola!
Viva Cuba!
