The major political parties in Canada are united in accelerating military spending to meet NATO’s 2% of GDP target. South of the border president Trump is calling on countries to push military spending to 5% of GDP.  At the same time working people are experiencing one of the worst cost of living crises in generations.

The additional tens of billions of dollars that is being promised to arms manufacturers and corporate interests abroad, will divert desperately needed billions from critical social issues such as housing, healthcare, education, reconciliation and climate action. The costs will, of course, be borne by working people.

The rise of Donald Trump, the drive towards militarism and NATO expansionism, will undoubtedly fuel wars of aggression, arms races, racism, and fan the flame of the climate crisis.

Iraklis Tsavdaridis will unpack Trump 2.0, NATO’s role as the armed wing of US imperialism, and the state of the global peace movement.

Iraklis Tsavdaridis has served for many years as Executive Secretary of the World Peace Council. Previously, he was elected President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth from 1999-2003.
